MGLC is working with the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Sciences deans office to accomplish the following initiatives for the benefit of McCormick graduate students:

  1. Graduate student lounge - McCormick graduate students need a space in the Tech building where we can relax, hang out, meet, nap, work, eat, etc. Currently, plans are being reviewed for a possible multi-million dollar renovation of a space on the fourth floor to create a graduate student lounge.
  2. Graduate student webspace - McCormick graduate students need server space where we can create personalized webpages to advertise ourselves to prospective employers. We have asked the deans for 1 gigabyte of space per graduate student and we will help design a template webpage for students to use. This idea is still pending approval. In the mean time, the graduate school has provided all graduate students with a CV hosting webpage that can link to personal webpages. MGLC is working with the graduate school to refine the CV webpage.
  3. Leadership promotion - MGLC and the McCormick deans are committed to promoting leadership opportunities among McCormick graduate students. The deans have encouraged the faculty to encourage graduate students to hold leadership positions, such as those available on MGLC. MGLC is also considernig sponsoring an annual McCormick leadership award as well as various leadership events.
  4. Service opportunities - MGLC plans to work with students in the Chemical & Biological Engineering department to expand their Graduate Student Fund (GSF) organization to all McCormick students. GSF organizes service events such as volunteering at local nursing homes and soup kichens.
